On the 5th of October Stoma Heroes attended the Soup event at the elim connect centre in wells, this event is held 4 x times a year for local support groups and charities to gain some valued funds for their groups. we were fortunate to be asked to attend the October event.
So what is soup.
At each SOUP! lunch there are four presentations on local Wells projects which could range from charities, culture, regeneration, community, social justice, social enterprise, education, technology and more.
Each presenter has four minutes to share their idea, showing how it will benefit the Wells community – with no PowerPoint or other technology allowed, but passion will be welcome! Audience members can ask each presenter up to four questions after their presentation.
After the presentations, audience members are encouraged to discuss and debate before voting. The audience then vote on which project they think will benefit the Wells area the most. Whichever presenter gets the most votes wins half of the money collected at the door, as much as £350, match-funded by sponsorship, to get their idea off the ground. The runners-up share the other half. So all four come away with new funds.
Winners come back to a future SOUP event to share what their project has achieved and the impact it has had.
not the best picture but we actually came second overall, which is a fantastic achievement, especially when I’m not great at talking in front of people.
