My name is Shane and in May 2017 I went into hospital for an emergency operation, I had a subtotal colectomy for a perforated caecum ( A small pouch in your intestine) it was probably one of the hardest times of my life.
I had to deal with the emotional, physical and mental issues like never before and there was plenty of thinking time that's for sure. I had a lot of negative thoughts and some positive thoughts. Towards the latter end of my hospital stay I really needed a focus, that focus was to help others.
Since leaving hospital I have had a burning desire to bring ostomates together to share one goal. Here at Stoma Heroes we are driven by that goal. Our goal is to bring awareness and connect ostomates together. To remove the stigma and help people regain their confidence, self esteem and bring a positivity to their life, to build up stoma heroes and give people that chance, that second chance they need.
Our Mission
